„Le collier d’or de la musique”” â Dijon (France), „La Cymbale d’or” â Krems (Autriche), „La Cle d’or” ă Ovideo (Espagne) etc.

Everywhere where it appeared in front of the public, Benone Damian’s folk ensemble left a remarkable impression due to the high artistic quality and ta the professionalism led to the degree of virtuoso of each member. With good reason, after the tour in 1975, the American newspapers were writing : „…The Romanian Folk Ensemble, indeed a fabulous group of musicians…” ; „…Romanian Folk Ensemble, a festival of the joy of life…”, or even more edifying : „…Music literally shook the auditorium with echoes of joy and vitality from the fireworks produced by the Benone Damian Romanian Folk Ensemble…”. Not only America, but also Europe welcomed with the same enthusiasm „…Benone Damian’s famous Romanian ensemble which has just won a great success at Victoria-Hall in Geneva and at Kongresshaus in Ziirich. Al! the musicians are virtuoso and all the songs of the Romanian folklore were magnificently interpreted, producing thunder-like applauses in the audience”. In Geneva they exclaimed in the papers : „…It is a first rate ensemble which brings the folk ort to what it has most spontaneous, thus requiring our admiration by the instrumental perfection of its interpret-ers…”. The success of the ensemble is due, before all, to Benone Damian himself, who, according to the Swiss paper „L’lmpartial” is „…the soul of the group, a refined, spar kling virtuoso who amazes every time by his ease and ardour capable to dominate a public in less time thdn we need to say it…”.

It is in 1968 that Benone Damian left for his first tour abroad, in Switzerland, accompanying a folk ensemble. He won a great success, which determined him to leave the symphonic orchestra whose member he was. He creates his own ensemble, with which he starts on the long series of successful tours in Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, France, German Democratic Republic, West Germany, Luxemburg, Holland, the United States of America, Sweden, makes recordings at the Radio and T.V. programs etc.

Besides Benone Damian, the ensemble includes another valuable instrumentalist, the virtuosa Pan-pipe player Nicolae Pirvu. Under the title „Extraordinary success of the Pan-pipe player Nicolae Pirvu”, the poper „L’Avenir du Luxembourg” praised the performance of the young Romanian instrumentalist: „The public could again admire the talent of this great artist, who touches the heart and soul of all those who listen him. This is because he joins to an amazing technique and to a perfect knowledge of the instrument, an extraordinary sensibility. He was enthusiastically applauded and encored after his interpretation of the famous „Skylark” when his Pan-pipe really changed into an underwood twittering and whistling; but he equally conquered his audience by sfow, affectionate melodies per-formed in a lower register”.

Nicolae Pirvu is one of the few Pan-pipe players who conquered the public by their extraordinary virtuosity. Endowed with an exquisite musicality, he started his musical education very early; it is only after the age of 14 that he passionately studied the Pan-pipe when entering the nr. 1 Music School in Bucharest, it is here that Pirvu learned all the secrets of this ancient instrument, under Fănica Luca’s guidance, the greatest Pan-pipe player of the time. After graduating the school, he was received in the folk orchestra of „N. Bălcescu” ensemble in Craiova; with it he took part, in 1966, to „The Week of European Music” in Passau (West Germany); afterwords he went on a long concert tour, crowned with great successes, in India, Pakistan, Iran, Irak and Liban. Some years- later he moved to Bucharest, being requested by the folk ensemble „Peri-niţa” for a tour to Italy. The impression produced by Pirvu on this accasion was so powerful, that the papers wrote: „Pirvu’s Pan-pipe fascinated Italy”. Back in his country, Pîrvu was more and more requested and he participated in various competitions and folk festivals; he wan numerous prizes and trophies, among; which „The Golden Neck-lace of Music” in Dijon (France), „The Golden Cymbal” in Krems (Austria), „The Golden Key” in Ovideo (Spain) etc.

In 1970, Nicolae Pirvu was received as an instrumentalist in the greatest and most representative folk music ensemble „The Romanian Rapsody” in Bucharest, with which he went on tours to Morocco, Algiers, Greece and West Ger¬many, on the occassion of the Olympic Games in Munich. A year later, he made his own ensemble, with which he gave concerts crowned by great successes In Holland, Sweden, Belgium and Brazil. In 1975 he was acclaimed in Switzerland as an instrumentalist of the ensemble „The Romanian Virtuoşi”; afterwards he was co-opted in the Benone Damian ensemble. Together with it he won new successes in Belgium and France, being requested for the yearly programs of the „Jeunesses Musicales” (The Musical Youths).
